Ningde Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 is successfully connected to the grid

Ningde Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 is successfully connected to the grid On December 28, Unit 1 of the first phase of the Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power Plant, located in the economic zone on the western side of the Taiwan Strait, marked a major milestone by successfully connecting to the power grid for the first time. Owned by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, this nuclear power station represents a significant step forward in the region's energy development. After thorough checks by engineers, all equipment parameters were found to be stable and under control, confirming that the unit has officially entered the grid-connected commissioning phase and is now capable of generating electricity. The grid connection is not just a technical achievement but also the start of value creation for the nuclear power company. From this point on, residents in Fujian will begin to benefit from the electricity generated by Unit 1. However, it's important to note that grid connection doesn't immediately mean commercial operation. The unit will now undergo a series of load tests, transient tests, and other necessary evaluations to ensure it meets all operational standards before full commercial use. The first phase of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant was developed through a joint effort between China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, China Datang Group, and the Fujian Provincial Energy Group. It utilizes China's independently developed advanced pressurized water reactor (PWR) technology to construct four units with a total capacity of 1.08 million kilowatts. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate around 30 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, significantly easing energy shortages and transportation pressures in the southeastern coastal areas. It will also help optimize the energy structure, improve grid stability, reduce carbon emissions, and support the sustainable development of Fujian’s economy, society, and environment. Moreover, the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant stands out as one of the most technologically self-reliant and localized large-scale nuclear power projects in China. The entire first phase was managed by China General Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation, with all aspects—from design and equipment manufacturing to construction and technical services—carried out by domestic companies. This project successfully achieves the goals of "independent design, independent manufacturing, independent construction, and independent operation," showcasing China's growing capabilities in the nuclear energy sector.
