Laibin City, Guangxi — In a recent visit to the Qianjiang Overseas Chinese Industrial Park in Laibin City, officials from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee of Industry and Information Technology, led by Shu Hua, along with Mayor Yang Herong and Vice Chairman Wei Shanguo of Laibin, toured several key aluminum companies, including Yinhai Aluminum and Double Li Aluminum. The visit aimed to assess current production conditions, hear detailed reports on company operations, and explore ways to support the local aluminum industry through effective policy measures.
The aluminum sector in the region has been facing significant challenges due to rising electricity costs and fluctuating prices of aluminum alloys since the beginning of the year. For companies like Yinhai Aluminum, the cost of electricity used in electrolysis and aluminum strip production accounts for over 40% of total expenses. This has created a major bottleneck, hindering growth and development. As a result, Yinhai Aluminum has suffered substantial losses, with delays in the second phase of its project and an inability to fully realize scale benefits.
To address this pressing issue, Laibin City has requested the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee for Industry and Commerce to coordinate and facilitate the use of the Qiaogong Hydropower Station and Laibin Power Plant as a captive power source for Yinhai Aluminum. This initiative aims to reduce electricity costs and improve the company's competitiveness.
After thoroughly reviewing the situation, Shu Hua emphasized that the regional committee will continue to support the development of the aluminum industry in the area. The team pledged to work closely with relevant departments to find practical solutions and help the local aluminum sector overcome its current difficulties.
