Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has developed a new type of foldable lithium battery that is as thin as paper.

Smartphones have made great strides in recent years, and battery technology has developed relatively slowly. Recently, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has developed a new type of foldable lithium battery, which is light and thin like paper and can be bent at will, and its performance is superior to the current ordinary lithium ion battery.

Hu Jingwei, a member of the R&D team of Jiangxi Provincial University of Technology's “Key Laboratory of Power Battery and Materials in Jiangxi Province”, said that the electrode material of ordinary batteries is attached to the metal sheet. Even if it is thin, the electrode material is easy to fall off, and a carbon nanotube is formed. The macro film replaces the traditional metal sheet to solve this problem. Under the same conditions, the specific capacity and energy density of this battery are higher than traditional commercial lithium-ion batteries. The battery remains functional after 5 consecutive folds.

Hu Jingwei said: "This battery is mainly in line with the development of wearable devices. The wearable device has to be bent or even folded, and its battery is also required to have bending and folding performance. We designed this battery to maximize It satisfies the need for the flexibility of the wearable device. In addition, since the lightweight carbon nanotube film replaces the metal foil, the energy density of the battery is significantly improved, thereby improving the shortcomings of the wearable device.
