As the summer season approaches, Kaifeng is quickly transitioning into its "summer mode," with sunlight becoming more intense and temperatures rising. Alongside the blooming of poplar trees, the city is experiencing an increase in airborne fluff, which has become a common nuisance for residents. This has led to a surge in demand for masks that can both protect against the sun and filter out the flying particles.
On May 6th, reporters visited several pharmacies along Yongjing Road, Hanxing Road, Jin'an Road, and Gongyuan Road. They found that disposable medical masks and cloth masks were prominently displayed on shelves. At one pharmacy on Hanxing Road, two women were seen purchasing multiple packs of disposable masks. One of them, Ms. Qiu, immediately put on a blue mask after checkout. She explained that she had been experiencing sneezing and an itchy nose while cycling to work recently, which she later realized was due to the poplar fluff in the air. “This mask is thin and breathable,†she said. “It helps block the dust from the poplars and also offers some sun protection. Plus, it's easy to throw away after use.â€
Pharmacy staff confirmed that during the spring-to-summer transition, disposable masks tend to sell quickly. “The main reason is the poplar fluff,†one employee said. “Many people are allergic to it and wear masks to avoid irritation. Compared to cloth masks, disposable ones are more comfortable, hygienic, and convenient, so they are more popular.â€
According to the report, poplar trees are the dominant species used for urban greening in Kaifeng, making up about 90% of the city’s forest reserves. Every year from April to May, these trees release fluff during their fruiting period, which lasts roughly a month. This seasonal phenomenon has become a familiar challenge for locals, prompting increased mask usage during this time.
With the arrival of warmer weather, the need for effective protection against both environmental irritants and the sun has never been higher. As a result, disposable masks have become a must-have item for many residents in the city.
An electric Butterfly Valve is a type of valve that uses an electric motor to control the opening and closing of the valve. The valve consists of a disc that rotates around a central axis to control the flow of fluid or gas. When the electric motor is activated, it rotates the disc to open or close the valve. Electric butterfly valves are commonly used in industrial applications such as water treatment, chemical processing, and HVAC systems. They are preferred over manual valves because they offer precise control and can be operated remotely.
