First, the soybean meal fermentation method:
The fermentation tank has a base of 2x1.5 meters and is 1 meter high. It can hold up to 1000 kilograms of soybean meal, mixed with 20 kilograms of corn flour. Then, 3 to 5 kilograms of Baiyibao EM stock solution are evenly sprinkled over the mixture. Water is added to the surface, and the faucet is turned off to allow the water to soak into the material. The general water addition is about 1 to 1.5 times the total weight of the materials, so in this case, around 1500 kg of water is used. The moisture should be just right — when you grab a handful, it should be slightly moist but not dripping. After that, a thick plastic sheet is placed over the mixture, and the edges are rolled into the material to ensure a tight seal.
Fermentation time varies depending on the season: at least 3 days in summer, 10 days in winter, and 6 days in spring and autumn. For soybean meal, it's recommended to extend the fermentation by two extra days to allow full chelation of ferrous iron into small peptides and to increase peptide production. Why such a long time? Because after fermentation, we perform TCA (trichloroacetic acid) testing, and the peak of small peptide production occurs at around 30°C for about three days, during which soluble protein levels exceed 25%.
After fermentation, the soybean meal becomes more soluble. Be careful not to drain out the liquid, as it contains many soluble amino acids and peptides. The texture becomes slightly sticky, with a strong fermented smell and a slight raw material scent. The color turns golden.
After each use, it must be resealed immediately to prevent spoilage. It’s best to use it within one breeding cycle, approximately 100 days.
Keep in mind that direct sunlight should be avoided during fermentation, as excessive heat can negatively affect the process. Second, can fermented soybean meal be used as pig feed?
Based on the specific formula of the pig farm, regular soybean meal can be replaced with fermented soybean meal. This significantly improves the digestibility and absorption rate of the feed, helping to reduce the feed-to-meat ratio. When measuring, since fermented soybean meal is wet, you need to multiply the amount by about 2.6. For example, if you need 10 kg of fermented soybean meal, you actually need to add 26 kg of the wet material into the mix.
In some cases, you may reduce the percentage slightly—around 3 to 5%—while maintaining the same growth rate. You can substitute it with vegetable meal, cottonseed meal, or wheat bran. This helps lower the energy-protein concentration of the feed, thus reducing costs. Alternatively, you can use about 5% of un-detoxified rapeseed meal for fattening pigs.
Fermented soybean meal should always be used in a wet state. Drying it would destroy the active substances, especially the beneficial peptides, leading to loss of activity. It could also cause reactions like the Maillard reaction between lysine and reducing sugars, resulting in the loss of energy and protein content. Additionally, vitamins and beneficial microorganisms would be greatly reduced during the drying process. It is recommended to add water before mixing and feeding the pigs. The ideal water-to-material ratio is 1:1.5 or higher.
