The fermentation tank has a base of 2×1.5 meters and is 1 meter high. It holds 1000 kg of soybean meal, 20 kg of corn flour, and 3 to 5 kg of Baiyibao EM stock solution. The soybean meal and corn flour are mixed evenly in the pool, then the EM stock solution is sprinkled evenly over the surface. Water is added to the top of the material, and the water faucet is turned off to allow it to absorb into the mixture. Typically, the amount of water used is 1 to 1.5 times the total weight of the materials, which in this case would be 1500 kg. The water should not be too much—ideally, when you grab a handful, it should not drip. After that, a thick plastic sheet is placed on top, and the edges of the sheet are rolled into the material to ensure a tight seal.
The fermentation period varies by season. In summer, it should last at least 3 days, while in winter, it needs at least 10 days. For spring and autumn, 6 days are recommended. Especially for soybean meal, it's better to extend the fermentation time by two more days to ensure full chelation of ferrous iron into small peptides, which also increases peptide production. Why such a long time? Because after fermentation, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) detection is performed. The most small peptides are produced at around 30°C, and soluble protein content can exceed 25%.
After fermentation, the solubility of soybean meal improves. Be careful not to drain off the liquid that comes out, as it contains many soluble amino acids and peptide nutrients. The texture becomes slightly sticky, with a strong aroma and a slight raw smell. The color turns golden.
After each use, the fermented material must be sealed immediately to prevent spoilage and degradation. It should be used within one breeding cycle, typically about 100 days.
It's important to avoid fermenting under direct sunlight, as excessive heat can negatively affect the process. Second, can fermented soybean meal be used to feed pigs?
According to the pig farm formula, regular soybean meal can be replaced with fermented soybean meal. This significantly improves the digestion and absorption rate of the feed and helps reduce the feed-to-meat ratio. When measuring, since fermented soybean meal is wet, you need to multiply the required amount by approximately 2.6. For example, if you need 10 kg of fermented soybean meal, you should actually add 26 kg of the raw material.
Alternatively, if you want to maintain the same growth rate and meat ratio, you may reduce the amount by 3 to 5% and replace it with vegetable meal, cottonseed meal, or wheat bran. This reduces the energy-protein concentration in the formula, helping to cut costs. You can also use about 5% of un-decontaminated rapeseed meal for fattening pigs.
Fermented soybean meal should always be used in a wet state and should not be dried, as drying can denature the active substances, especially the peptides, leading to loss of activity. It can also cause the loss of soluble amino acids like lysine and reduce the Maillard reaction between reducing sugars. Additionally, energy and protein peptides, along with vitamins and beneficial microorganisms, will be greatly reduced during the drying process. It is recommended to add water before mixing, and the material-to-water ratio should be at least 1:1.5 when feeding pigs.
