Furniture cabinet hardware should not be life-long warranty?

When purchasing large furniture such as a wardrobe or cabinet, do you pay attention to the hardware? It’s often an overlooked detail for many consumers. During my visit to a furniture store, I noticed that most sales representatives didn’t explain the hardware features of the wardrobes they were selling. If I hadn’t asked about it, the issue would have gone unnoticed. This is a common blind spot—no one questions it, and even some brands don’t mention the after-sales warranty for hardware in their contracts. As a result, if something goes wrong with this small part, consumers may find themselves without any recourse. Although small, hardware plays a crucial role in the overall functionality and lifespan of furniture. While manufacturers are experts in selecting and using wood, they may not always be experts in producing high-quality hardware. The hardware acts as a connecting component, and its flexibility and durability significantly impact the user experience. If the hardware breaks early, doors won’t open smoothly, drawers might jam, and taps could become difficult to use. Even if the furniture itself is well-made, these issues can turn it into a defective product. Therefore, it's essential for consumers to pay attention to both the big picture and the details. They should not only focus on the design and materials but also check the quality of the hardware and the after-sales service offered. Many companies don’t provide a lifetime warranty for hardware. Some mainstream brands currently offer a three-year warranty, which covers free repairs within that period, while charges apply afterward. A few brands, especially those using high-quality imported hardware, may offer a lifetime warranty, promising free maintenance if issues arise. According to Yan Fang, the after-sales director at Bolloni, the willingness to offer a lifetime warranty reflects confidence in the product and indirectly shows its quality. However, such promises come with challenges for companies, which is why many take a cautious approach. Industry sources indicate that the standard warranty for hardware from top brands is usually three years, though this can vary depending on usage. For example, Bolloni has specific definitions for different types of hardware. Hardware used on interior doors, for instance, experiences more wear and tear compared to that on cabinets, so its warranty period is shorter. The concept of "lifetime warranty" can be misleading. While some top furniture brands guarantee free repairs within three years and offer lifetime maintenance, this doesn't necessarily mean everything is free forever. According to Han Baoguo, the operations director at Top 100 Furniture, "Lifetime maintenance means you can get help whenever needed, but it doesn't mean all services are free." As more brands promote "lifetime warranty," consumers should be cautious. Not all guarantees mean free lifetime service. Some brands use this as a marketing strategy, but in reality, they may charge fees after a certain period. Therefore, it's important for consumers to ask: Is this a "free" lifetime warranty, or is there a cost involved? Always clarify the terms before making a purchase.
