Nitto Seiko has developed the technology "PaintCross" to prevent the peeling of the screw head coating. A special stepped shape is designed on the surface of the cross recess (groove) of the screw head transmission portion that is in contact with the mounting tool such as a screwdriver. Therefore, the mounting tool does not touch the position where the coating adheres and does not cause the coating to peel off. The company plans to establish a mass production system and officially sell the product from January 2011.
Represented by cameras, products with design requirements often use the same color as the screws used in the product. However, the coating of the head of the screw that comes into contact with the installation tool during installation is peeled off. Therefore, in the front line of the installation work, the screws have been reinstalled or repaired in the past, or the coating adhesion is improved by expensive plating. Moreover, since the coating peeling is feared, problems such as a decrease in the working speed have occurred.
The new screw has the following features: (1) The installation tool is not in direct contact with the coating surface, so there is no need to improve the adhesion between the coating and the plating layer, and low-cost plating can be used; (2) the cross groove is generally popular. Commercially available installation tools can be used; (3) The shape of the step is fine, and the appearance is the same as that of the conventional cross recess, which is convenient for replacing the existing product; (4) The operation speed can be accelerated because there is no need to worry about the peeling of the coating. The basic parameters of the screw are 1.7mm and 2.0mm in diameter, made of carbon steel and the head is flat.
