Urea application method

Urea is an amide nitrogen fertilizer. After being applied to the soil, except for a small part directly absorbed by the crop, most of it is converted into ammonium carbonate under the action of urease in the soil and then absorbed by the crop. The chemical properties of ammonium carbonate are very unstable and easy to be divided. The solution releases ammonia. When urea is applied to the surface, it will also cause the volatilization of ammonia; if applied to the surface of calcareous soil or alkaline soil, the volatilization of ammonia is more serious. In addition, urea can not be adsorbed by the soil before being converted into ammonium carbonate. If the water is flooded immediately after fertilization, the urea will be leached to the deep layer to reduce the fertilizer efficiency.
Urea should be applied in dry land. Whether it is used as base fertilizer or top dressing, it is necessary to pay attention to deep application of cover soil so that the fertilizer is in the moist soil layer to facilitate the conversion of urea and prevent the evaporation of ammonia after conversion; if the soil moisture is insufficient after fertilization, Can be watered in moderation, avoid flooding. Paddy fields should be applied before irrigation, preferably deep application. Generally, do not rush to water after application, and then re-irrigate every 3-5 days.
