Lithopone is one of the most commonly used white pigments. Its position is second only to titanium dioxide. As a multifunctional white pigment, its blue phase has a white phase and has a toning effect. It can be used in combination with fluorescent whitening agents. The qualities and advantages that plastic products cannot impart to other white pigments.

First, glass fiber reinforced plastic

Because Lide powder has a Mohs hardness of only 3, studies have proven that it is very suitable as a white pigment for glass reinforced plastics. The advantage is that it does not destroy the reinforcing glass fiber like TiO2 in the process of forming, so that the bending strength or impact strength of the finished product does not have a negative impact.

Second, the flexibility is good

Since lithopone is very soft and has no photocatalytic activity of TiO2, it is well suited for coloring and opacifying natural and synthetic elastomers. Therefore, the wearability is small, and the sole produced using the white elastomer of Lide powder as the pigment has a much longer service life than the TiO2.

Third, thermoplastics

As a stabilizer, lithopone is also inventively applied to some thermoplastics, especially PP and PBT, to improve the thermal stability of the polymer. There is no conclusive explanation for the mechanism among them. However, we believe that it is because Lide powder can react with most catalytic metal ions to form an immobile complex, which avoids the catalytic degradation caused by these ions entering the polymer lattice.
