Japan's overall cutting tool production rises in 2012

The Japan Tool Industry Association summarized the overall production volume of cutting tools for June 2012 (tool head and body) because the sales of thread cutting tools were good. In June, the total cutting tool production was 9.311 billion yen (approximately $118.75 million), an increase of 1.7% over the same period last year. The shipment amounted to 8.873 billion yen (approximately US$11,316 million), an increase of 3.2% over the same period of last year. Excluding the impact of membership changes, production volume increased by 2.9% year-on-year, and shipments increased by 4.5% year-on-year.

In terms of material types, the production of special steel tools was 7.273 billion yen (approximately 0.9403 billion US dollars), the production of cemented carbide tools was 1.905 billion yen (approximately 0.204 billion US dollars), and diamond/cubic boron nitride ( CBN) tool production amounted to 0.33 billion yen (approximately 0.0042 billion US dollars). The Bureau pointed out that although some orders have been heard from some members, the production has temporarily remained stable due to the large number of undelivered orders.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan showed that the production of special steel tools in June 2012 was 7.633 billion yen (approximately US$973.5 million), an increase of 2.4% year-on-year, showing an upward trend for two consecutive months. From the perspective of different varieties, the production of taps and dies was 2.856 billion yen (approximately 0.3642 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 4.6% over the same period of the previous year; the production of drill bits was 1.575 billion yen (approximately 0.2009 billion U.S. dollars), a decrease of 5.2% year-on-year. %.
