Eight considerations for watermelon fertilization

First, you can not simply apply nitrogen fertilizer. Watermelon fertilization should be combined with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. It is best to use farm manure such as chicken manure, cake fertilizer, human waste, garbage, and ash.
Second, do not apply chlorine-containing fertilizers. For the application of chemical fertilizers in watermelon, urea, ammonium sulfate, potassium sulfate, etc. should be used. It is forbidden to apply ammonium chloride, potassium chloride and other chlorinated fertilizers.
Third, do not apply heavy fertilizer when it is dry. The weather is dry, the soil moisture content is low, and the liquid fertilizer with high concentration cannot be applied. Water or water must be watered first to fertilize the soil before fertilization.
Fourth, it should not be fertilized in rainy days. On a rainy day, the air temperature is high, the soil moisture content is high, and the ability to absorb fertilizer and maintain fertilizer is poor. At this time, fertilization, fertilizer is not only easy to lose, but also caused the vine leaves to grow long, and the leaves are tender and easy to induce pests and diseases.
5. It is not advisable to fertilize the near roots. With the continuous elongation of watermelon vines, the root system has gradually expanded correspondingly, and fertilization under the roots has not been fully absorbed and utilized.
Sixth, can not be fertilized in the topsoil. High temperature and dry weather, such as applying fertilizer to the topsoil, not only the fat loss is easy to volatilize, but also burns roots. Therefore, the fertilization should be carried out at a depth of 20~40 cm from the root, open the hole and then cover the soil to prevent the loss of fertilizer. .
7. It is not possible to apply ammonium bicarbonate when the surface soil is dry. When applying ammonium bicarbonate, whether as base fertilizer or top dressing, it should be covered immediately after deep application in the case of soil moisture. In case of dry weather, it should be poured with water or watered after application.
8. It is not advisable to apply water immediately after applying urea. The nitrogen contained in urea exists in the amide state. The amide is absorbed and utilized by the roots of watermelon after the conversion of nitrogen to ammonium carbonate or ammonium hydrogencarbonate. It usually takes 3 to 5 days to be converted. Urea should be used as base fertilizer or top dressing. After the conversion is completed, the water can be filled.
