New battery can supply 12 hours for ordinary homes

After the Fukushima nuclear accident, energy scarcity became a problem that Japan had to face. Many households purchased batteries for emergency use, but products that could drive high-power household appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners and ensure long-term power supply were extremely rare. . According to the report of the Physical Science Network on September 18, Toshiba Corporation of Japan has recently developed a new type of home battery system to fill this gap. The system's output capacity reaches 3.0 kVA, which can guarantee the average household's 12-hour electricity demand.

The battery system developed by Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. is called eneGoon. The lighting equipment (100 watts), refrigerator (160 watts), television set (150 watts), and personal computer (30 watts) can be operated continuously for approximately 12 hours after full charging. The charging time is about 5 hours in normal mode and about 2 hours in fast charging mode. It is said that this is Toshiba's first fixed household battery.

The battery of this system is about 89 centimeters long, about 30 centimeters wide, about 108 centimeters high and weighs 168 kilograms. Toshiba said that for the first time, the system has achieved the industry's "top-of-the-line" output capability of 3.0 kVA in the field of home storage batteries. Therefore, it can simultaneously supply power for a variety of high-power home appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators. Its core component is Toshiba's SCiB super lithium battery with a capacity of 6.6 kWh.

The SCiB battery was first introduced by Toshiba in 2010. It has the advantages of ultra-fast charging and long-life. The repeated charge and discharge of 3,000 times of battery degradation is less than 10%, and the cycle charge and discharge life exceeds 6,000 times. In addition, it also has high heat-resistant safety, high input and output performance, and low-temperature performance that can fully discharge at minus 30 degrees Celsius.

Toshiba Lighting Technology Corp. plans to launch this product in Japan in November this year and is expected to sell for 1.5 million yen (about 120,000 yuan). (Reporter Wang Xiaolong)
