3D printing can hit 200 ° C ultra-high temperature engineering plastics

[Jiuzhi Plastics News] It is reported that Professor Shinno Junshu of the Institute of Production Technology of the University of Tokyo has successfully completed the three-dimensional modeling of super engineering plastics with heat resistance of 150 °C or higher using 3D printers. Compared with the existing processing methods such as cutting and injection molding, the strength is about 80%, and the complicated shape can be processed, which is advantageous for the production of high-temperature resistance required for the engine peripheral parts of automobiles and airplanes.
Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) having a melting point of 280 ° C and heat resistance of 150 ° C and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) having a melting point of 360 ° C and a heat resistance of 200 ° C were successfully formed into a three-dimensional shape. The molding method is a powder lamination method in which a resin powder is irradiated with a laser, and then repeatedly melted, cooled and solidified, and a body shape is established. The furnace was kept at 200 ° C, and the resin powder was melted by raising the laser to about 400 ° C.
By increasing the laser area and evenly distributing the energy, the powder can efficiently absorb heat to melt the resin. After forming the test piece for the strength test, it was confirmed that the strength reached about 80% of the other processing methods. In the future, intensity data of different basic shapes will be collected, and a design system capable of predicting strength in shape design will be developed.
