Yucheng County's industrial cluster area has a planned total area of 26 square kilometers, with diamond superhard materials and pharmaceutical manufacturing as its core industries. Following the development strategy of "scale expansion, heavy industrial clusters, integrated production cities, strong technology support, comprehensive service systems, and efficiency improvement," the county has made significant progress in innovation and operational efficiency. By the end of 2012, the built-up area of the industrial cluster reached 10.2 square kilometers, housing 136 industrial enterprises. The Yucheng Industrial Cluster earned recognition as one of the "Top Ten Fast-Developing Industrial Clusters in Henan Province" in 2010, "Advanced Industrial Cluster Area in Henan Province" in 2012, and "Most Competitive Industrial Cluster Area in Henan Province." In 2012, it was officially designated as a provincial high-tech industrial development zone by the provincial government.
As part of the Central Plains Economic Zone construction, Yucheng County's industrial cluster demonstrated strong growth momentum, mirroring the development trajectory of other successful regions. Focused on expanding its leading industries, the county has concentrated efforts on diamond superhard materials and pharmaceuticals, promoting resource integration and collaborative investment. This has led to continuous industry expansion and enhanced agglomeration effects. In 2012, the two leading industries accounted for 62.8% of the total operating income of the cluster.
Diamond is considered a "sunrise industry" with strong national support and vast market potential. Yucheng County has positioned itself as a key player in this sector, aiming to build a national diamond industry base. It has expanded its industrial cluster, fostered leading companies, promoted technological innovation, and strengthened cooperation. Today, the diamond industry in Yucheng includes 53 enterprises such as Huifeng Diamond Technology, Jinrui Diamond Tools, Wanke Diamond Tools, and Power New Materials. Annual diamond output reaches 1 billion carats, while micronized powder production exceeds 4.5 billion carats, with 7 million pieces of diamond products produced each year. The industry has developed a complete chain, from micro-powder production to single crystal diamonds, diamond powders, and serialized products, extending into application fields and offering over 130 product varieties across seven series.
Known as the "Hometown of Diamond Micropowder," Yucheng accounts for more than 70% of the national market share. However, before 2010, no local company produced diamonds, relying entirely on external suppliers. In early 2010, the Yucheng County Party Committee and government established the Henan Power New Materials Group within the industrial cluster, aiming to expand and strengthen the super-hard materials industry. In March 2010, a 400 million-carat diamond production line was launched, with plans for a 59,000-square-meter complex. Despite typical project timelines that could take one to two years, Yucheng completed the project in just six months, setting a new standard known as the "Yucheng Speed."
The rapid project completion allowed the company to gain valuable time and generate substantial profits. According to the head of Henan Power New Materials Group, "We never imagined we could achieve this speed. It gave us precious time and created significant profits!"
To strengthen industrial transfer, Yucheng attracted major projects and enterprises through its industrial clusters. In 2012, 22 investment projects totaling over 100 million yuan were completed, with 6.69 billion yuan invested in industrial projects. Companies like Power New Materials and Huifeng Diamond Technology have gained top industry recognition in Henan. Projects from leading enterprises such as Advanced Industrial Diamond, New Source Superhard, Wanke Diamond Tools, Jinrui Diamond Industrial Park, and Spring Science & Technology have played critical roles in driving the development of key industries.
Henan Power New Materials Group, a high-tech enterprise specializing in diamond single crystals, operates a provincial engineering technology research center. Its high-strength, large-grain diamond crystals are internationally competitive, with full production expected to yield 1 billion carats of diamonds annually and 2 million sets of diamond products. Annual sales are projected to reach 2.5 billion yuan, with profits and taxes of 390 million yuan.
To accelerate the group’s development, county leaders and project teams worked continuously without weekends or holidays, even during the May Day holiday. Their commitment ensured timely project completion.
Scientific and technological innovation has been central to Yucheng’s development. Through initiatives like "construction and operation, integration of production, study, and research," the county invited over 20 experts to provide guidance and conduct training. Enterprises such as Xinyuan Superhard, Power New Materials, Huifeng, Wanke, and Xiangtai have formed joint ventures with research institutes inside and outside the province. Yucheng has continuously invested in science and technology and talent, establishing a 50 million yuan innovation fund to support advanced technologies and process improvements.
Currently, the cluster includes 5 high-tech enterprises, 63 independent patents, 13 invention patents, and over 3,500 mid-level and above scientific and technical personnel, including 150 senior engineers, 7 PhD holders, and 30 graduate students. Collaborations with 14 research institutions, including Zhengzhou Sanmo Institute, Henan University of Technology, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, have enabled close cooperation in technology transfer, high-end product development, and personnel training. The county has also helped establish four provincial engineering technology centers and the Henan Diamond Industry Testing Center, enhancing enterprises’ capabilities in new product development, patent conversion, and product testing.
