Yucheng County's industrial cluster covers a total planned area of 26 square kilometers, with diamond superhard materials and pharmaceutical manufacturing as its core industries. Following the development strategy of "scale expansion, heavy industrial clusters, integrated production cities, technological support, service enhancement, and efficiency improvement," the county has achieved remarkable progress in innovation mechanisms and scientific operations. By the end of 2012, the built-up area of the industrial cluster reached 10.2 square kilometers, hosting 136 enterprises. Yucheng’s industrial cluster has been honored with titles such as "Henan Province’s Top Ten Fast Industrial Clusters" in 2010, "Henan Province’s Advanced Industrial Cluster" in 2012, and "Henan Province’s Most Competitive Industrial Cluster." In 2012, it was officially designated as a provincial high-tech industrial development zone by the provincial government.
The cluster has shown strong growth potential within the Central Plains Economic Zone, demonstrating a dynamic development trend similar to that of Hong. Focused on cultivating and expanding leading industries, Yucheng has emphasized diamond superhard materials and pharmaceutical manufacturing. These two industries accounted for 62.8% of the total operating income in the agglomeration area in 2012. The diamond industry, considered a sunrise sector, is supported by the state and boasts a strong foundation and vast market potential.
Yucheng has focused on building a national diamond industry base, expanding industrial clusters, fostering leading enterprises, and promoting technological innovation. Currently, there are 53 enterprises engaged in diamond and its products, including Huifeng Diamond Technology, Jinrui Diamond Tools, Wanke Diamond Tools, and Power New Materials. Annual output includes 1 billion carats of diamonds, 4.5 billion carats of micronized powder, and 7 million pieces of diamond products. The industry has developed a complete supply chain, from micro-powder production to single crystal diamond, diamond powder, and serialized products, extending into application fields and diversifying product lines to over 130 varieties across seven series.
Once known as the "hometown of diamond micropowder" with over 70% national market share, Yucheng had no local diamond production before 2010. In 2010, the county established the Henan Power New Materials Group to expand the diamond industry chain. A 400 million carat annual production line was launched in March 2010, with plans for a large-scale office and research building. The project was completed in just six months, setting a new speed record known as the "Yucheng Speed."
This rapid development has brought significant benefits to investors. According to the head of Henan Power New Materials Group, the quick start-up saved valuable time and generated substantial profits. Yucheng has also attracted numerous key projects through industrial clusters, with 22 major investment projects completed in 2012, totaling 6.69 billion yuan in industrial investment. Enterprises like Power New Materials and Huifeng Diamond Technology have gained national recognition, becoming top players in their sectors.
To accelerate the construction of the Power New Materials Group, county leaders and project teams worked tirelessly without weekends or holidays. Emphasizing scientific and technological innovation, Yucheng has promoted the upgrading of the diamond industry from basic materials to high-end products such as automotive parts and aerospace materials. The county has invested heavily in R&D, establishing a 50 million yuan science and technology fund, and has partnered with 14 research institutes, including Zhengzhou Sanmo Institute and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Currently, the agglomeration area includes 5 high-tech enterprises, 63 independent patents, 13 invention patents, and over 3,500 technical personnel, including 150 senior engineers, 7 PhDs, and 30 master’s degree holders. Companies like Xinyuan Superhard and Huifeng have built provincial engineering centers and testing facilities, enhancing their capabilities in R&D and product inspection.
Huifeng Diamond Technology, once a small processing company, has now become the largest manufacturer of diamond micronized powder in China and a key high-tech enterprise in Henan. As Wang Laifu, its general manager, reflected, the transformation has been remarkable, showcasing the power of innovation and strategic development in Yucheng.
