Volkswagen exhibits turbo FSI engine with supercharger

German Volkswagen has announced that it will present a "Golf GT" at the 61st Frankfurt Motor Show (61st IAA Cars 2005, open to the public from September 17 to 25, 2005), equipped with a supercharger and The direct injection "FSI" gasoline engine "Twincharger" for the turbocharger. The engine, with the use of a supercharger and a turbocharger, achieves a maximum output of 125 kW (170 PS) and a fuel efficiency of 13.8 km/L with a small displacement of 1.4L.
The Twincharger engine uses a supercharger with an auto-switched supercharger and an exhaust turbocharger to achieve a higher fuel economy than a NA (naturally aspirated) engine with the same torque and greater displacement. Since a large torque can be generated in the low speed rotation zone of the engine, the driver can use a higher gear to drive.
The Twincharger with a displacement of 1.4L will be equipped with the "Golf GT" in the spring of 2006 with the use of automatic MT "DSG". The maximum output power is 125kW (170PS) and the maximum torque is 240N·m. The maximum speed is 220km/h, and it takes 7.9 seconds to accelerate from the stop state to 100km/h.
In addition, the Twincharger with a maximum output of 103kW (138PS) and a maximum torque of 220N·m will be used for the small MPV (Multi-Functional Commercial Vehicle) "Touran" from the beginning of 2006, and is planned to be used after this. "Golf".
