Ford’s carbon bike concept electric bicycle debut

On September 21, Ford Motor Company launched a composite-enhanced concept electric bicycle. “The electric bicycle market has grown very rapidly. Last year, global sales reached 3 million vehicles,” explains Axel Wilke, Director of European Automotive Customer Service. Electric bikes are often used for short-distance use, so Ford responded. Under the leadership of Martin Smith, the design executive director of the design team, its design language can easily be translated into bicycle applications.

The electric bicycle has a trapezoidal frame profile made of aluminum and carbon fiber composite material, the frame weighs about 5 lbs./2.3 kg, and the wheel has six V-shaped design spokes. The drive system is invisible and has a clean and simple appearance. Power comes from the front-wheel hub motor drive system, which houses a lithium-ion battery in the frame and is fully charged for 52 miles.
