In order to better implement the “Za beef purification and rejuvenation technology promotion†project, Haibei Prefecture has included the project as a “seed project†during the “Tenth Five-Year Plan†and the industrial restructuring of animal husbandry has been included on the agenda. The State Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau took the lead. The state animal husbandry professional technicians of the State Institute of Animal Husbandry were specifically responsible for the technical identification and introduction of 1/2 wild male yak. ​​From 2002 to 2008, a total investment of 5,539,500 yuan was invested, which was successively introduced from the Datong yak farm and other places. At the same time, special management of the special account and separate accounting are used in fund management to ensure the investment benefits; the project implements a technology contracting system to give full play to the technical superiority of scientific and technical personnel in the first line of animal husbandry; artificial insemination and warm shelter The livestock husbandry and practical technologies such as cattle, grass breeding, beef cattle production, and animal epidemic prevention and control are the main contents, extensively carrying out technical training and actively promoting supporting technologies.
It is understood that the organization and implementation of the project will rejuvenate 12,500 yaks each year, and increase the production of meat by 6 kg for each improved offspring and 30 yuan per kilogram of meat, which can increase the economic benefit of 2.25 million yuan. As of 2008, more than 68,750 yaks in the project area have been purified and rejuvenated, producing more than 32,725 quartic calves with 1/4 wild blood. This has been widely used in the main yak producing areas in four counties of Quanzhou.
According to the director of the Mabei Institute of Animal Husbandry, the breeding of yaks in Haibei Prefecture reached 507,200, of which 305,300 were breeding female yak, and the proportion of yak females was nearly 60%. Therefore, while strengthening the selection and breeding of existing domestic yak breeds and cross-breeding, the use of breeding stocks to improve scientific and technological achievements can give full play to and excavate yak resources and production potential, and at the same time adopt early feeding technology to increase yak slaughter rate.
